Tim,

I have been noticing an increase in the amount of spam I have been getting and looking for places where that email address is exposed on the web. I noticed that in the forum software you are using, when a person posts and supplies an email address, that email address is exposed as a mail to tag on the resultant page. This seems like it would be easily crawled by spammers and harvested.

Can you do anything about this in general to not expose these email addresses. Or, if not possible globably, is there a way it could be addressed for the one or two posts that I have made over the years?

Thanks,
~bill

Hi Tim, liked the picture of the Commodore, I used one of those at teacher's training college, but my first computer which I programmed in Binary Coded Decimal only had 400 memory spaces. (NCR 500) I wrote all sorts too, Sales ledger, cheque production, payroll, and stock control for a subsiduary of Rootes (Chrysler?) I don't program now but I did use Xara (a freebie on a magazine CD) to make the buttons for my website, its a good little program.
Sadly I think programming is a thing of my past but I completely agree with your sentiments about good programs being written with only small amounts of code. Mine had to be...( I did briefly teach programming in BASIC and the lads hated it when I insisted on flowcharts before they started coding.)

Sounds strange. Sounds like something on your system restored an old version of your notes file. The most likely cause of this is that you have your 'My Documents' folder on a network share or have a 'roaming profile' or something. Maybe you used some backup/restore software to get some files back recently, and overwrote the Memento file by mistake?

Memento stores its notes in a file called 'Memento.notes', which is in your 'My Documents' folder (wherever that is located).

Do you tend to run your PC for weeks without rebooting it? This may also make the above situations more likely. Although I'm not entirely sure what's going on here.

Oh sorry I forgot to reply to this.

Anyway, you can copy the file from one PC to another - the file is called 'Memento.notes', and is in your 'My Documents' folder.

You should not do this while Memento is running, because the next time Memento saves the notes it will just over-write your notes file.

So if you're copying notes from machine A to B:

1. Stop running Memento on machine B (Exit on the menu)
2. Copy Memento.notes from A to the 'My Documents' folder on B.
3. Run Memento on B.

You should be all done.

Well, I'm in need for this too.
My Problem is the following:
I've got a Corporate laptop which is operating in a ADS-Domain-Network.
My Corp. uses Roaming Profiles. My %USERPROFILE% is "C:\Documents and Settings\s4773" but my %HOMEDRIVE% is "L:\" which is a network share. The "My Documents" folder is on "L:\Daten" where memento put's it's ".notes" file.

When I'm at home, and start my laptop, i'm not connected to the corporate lan. Therefor I enabled Offline Folrder Synchronization for Drive "L:" on my Computer. This leads to Windows sometimes syncing (and in fact overwriting) the ".notes" file when memento is running, or restoring the correct file, after memento has been started and already created a new blank one.

Conclusion: I'm not able to use memento as the ".notes" file regularly gets corrupted.

If you don't have time to make the location of the file configureable, I would ask you, if you could at least provide me with a memento.exe which hardcoded puts the file somewhere on C: or on %USERPROFILE%.

memento is great, and I hate not being able to use it becaus of our damn corporate setup...

Thx in advance

nomike aka Michael Postmann

If you still have problems, you can email me the file if you like and I'll try to fix it.

As for your question about the google cache, the note caches are not stored in those links files - they are simply dummy files to allow Google Indexing to work. GDS only indexes individual files, and the Memento notes are all stored in one file, so I have to fake the 'link' files to make it work. The link files are all 0 bytes in size, iirc. I presume you can just search for 'memento notes' in GDS, and look at the cached versions (which are stored by GDS in its own index/cache files).

Just installed FastFind -- it's just what I was looking for, something like slocate for linux but on Windows.

I recently did a System Restore and now I have all these bogus directories ending with "(2)" like "Program Files(2)" and so on. It would be cool for me at least if FastFind indexed directory names as well as file names, so I could delete or at least find all of these (2) thingies. Not sure if you're still interested in working on FastFind, but if you are, there's an idea for you...

thanks for a useful, small, sensible program!

-- Gary Oberbrunner

Gosh - I managed to miss this message - sorry!

Anyway, FreeSpace only checks the free space every five minutes, so if you, for example, delete a lot of files, it won't show up immediately in the FreeSpace display.
